I continue to try to blog.
It is not working too well. I'm obviously very busy or I don't think about blogging much - you decide.
I've learned some interesting things around photography recently that have helped me craft my art more.
I'm looking to do a few more shoots here soon as well.
I'm a child of '60s and '70s music. Yeah, I know how to disco in platform shoes and bell-bottom pants, though I'd prefer angel-flights. I enjoy Photography and would like to share what I've done with you. Your comments are appreciated.

Arrrggghhhhh.
Haven't blogged for a while now.
Haven't had a good photo shoot recently either.
Maybe the one relates to the other? Hmmmm.
So, here it is, 8/8/2014 and I'm blogging again. Something must have changed.
It did. I had a shoot with my good friend Emma. She's so fun to shoot with.
So easy to work with, too.
I've also been trying to stay off automatic and shoot all manual. Yes - back to the basics where I control the shoot, the exposure, the shutter, the focus, the focal point. It was so reminiscent of the good ol' film days. Those days where you'd shoot in manual - because that was what you had. You couldn't all of a sudden, change the ISO. You had to finish the roll and start another one or just figure it out and make it work. So, from my experience on film, I like or prefer to use ISO 100 or 200.
Next we talk about photo framing. Not the wooden thing you put around the final result, but the setting, the set-up of the shot. I like to have items in the shot that give framing or reference to the subject. Not too overwhelming that they become distractions but lend to bring the focus to the subject.
From the framing, we then go into shutter speed and focal length - seconds and f-stop. For most of my model shoots, I prefer a narrow f-stop, small f-stop to bring your eyes to the subject and blur the rest. Yet, there are times that a deeper length is needed. the exposure time then is offset from the f-stop selected to bring the right amount of light in the shot.
I'll get to posting samples from the 'Emma' shoot here soon enough. I've got 100+ shots to scan through.

My favorite photo spot by GSL is gone
I can't believe it. One of my most favourite shooting spots is gone. I shot with Ashley only 8 months ago; the rail car and graffiti covered building are all gone now.
I need to post some more of Ashley that depicts the character of this place. Alas - gone now.

End of the year photoshoot
I had a shot with Ashley on 12-30 this past week.
Ashley was a great shoot, and I got a couple of real good head shots with her.
I'd love to shoot with her again.

Black and White shoot
I had a shoot recently with a friend, Angie.
I wanted this to be all in black-and-white. We went out west of Utah Lake to an open field and shot quite a few photos. I rendered them all in black and white. I've always wanted a B&W set.
We had a great time. I'll add the ones I liked (specifically) later.

Spring Photo Shoot
I had a great shoot with a good friend recently. We shot in and around a nice building here local as well as near a University campus. The collection of building architecture and spring flowers made for a great shoot.

Great Salt Lake shoot
Well. I had this all set up and was really excited to shoot with a new model.
She sent me an email early in the morning stating that she had transportation troubles and would not be able to make the shoot.
Rather than waste a planned shoot, I went anyway. I shot about 50 or 60 shots of the landscape, buildings, and this real neat-looking rail-car, when this young couple started walking around the place as well. I went up to the guy and asked it I could use them as subjects for a few shots. They were willing and so that worked out really cool.
I’ll post a few here when I get at them.

Spring is coming!
Ok, a new year is here and the weather is getting warmer.
We are now in Daylight saving time, and so the sun is going down later - at least according to the clock.
I saw an abandon building out near the south end of the Salt Lake and would like to shoot there sometime this week. Any takers contact me at kphotos.ut@gmail.com

fall shoots
I did two fall colors shots.
One with Haley and one with Karem. Both were gorgeous models and worked well.
I'll post a few shots when I get them. I don't have access to them right now from this PC.

Salt Flats shoot
We found ourselves out in the west desert and began to shoot. What a dry, flat waste-land.The air was hot and the ground was dry, but the scenery was wonderful.

Another Engagement shoot done
I did another shoot a week later. These two kids were much younger and were very anxious to get photos done. The sun-light was fair, but there were times where is became a little too harsh for my liking (eye squinting).
We also shot at the Provo Library. I need to look at my tri-pod because some of them turned out a little slanted. It's a good thing photoshop can help correct for some of these 'novice' mistakes.

Engagement Shoot Done
I recently did an engagement shoot with a friend and her fiance. My long-time friend came along as well and helped. It was cold but we managed to shoot several different settings and poses. I think they turned out good. There should be at least five good shots they can choose from.
I look forward to more shoots as spring gets here.

New Year!
A new year has arrived. I've been trying to stay focused (get it? focused! Ha) at work, but I want to get out and shoot some more so badly!
I had a couple of people ask me to do their weddings, but I'm not patient enough with the mothers and mothers-in-law to do a wedding. You'd have to really be a good friend, or pay me a terrific amount to do a wedding. I will do some engagement photos, in fact, I've got a friend that wants to to shoot her engagement photos.
I took these of some friends at an exotic car shoot.

We shot this last fall while the weather was still good. They brought their dogs and we took a lot for them to pick from.

Fall Leaves and Water falls
I had a great shoot with Cali Nelson. I got so many got shots of her, I almost filled up a 4 Gig memory card. She was fantastic to work with. I'd work with her again!
The water was really cold, but Cali was really willing to get wet.
I'll have to see about getting some shots posted here.

Casting call
Calling all models that would like to pose in fall color splendor! I'm shooting in Battle Creek Canyon this next Tues., Wed., and Thurs., after 5:00 pm (10-6 to 10-8). Anyone interested - send me a comment or email and we'll see what we can do to work you in. This will be a TFCD shoot, so we both get photos to add to our portfolios.
